The Ryan Fitzgerald Foundation is led by people who believe that the cost of a prosthetic device should never determine whether an amputee gets to move forward.
Ryan Fitzgerald has been navigating the prosthetic care system since before his first birthday. Diagnosed with congenital fibrosarcoma at three months old, he had his left leg amputated before he turned one. He went on to play varsity football for four years on one leg and helped lead his high school team to a state championship.
More than 30 years of living inside a system that routinely fails amputees gave Ryan something no policy brief can replicate: credibility earned through lived experience. He founded The Ryan Fitzgerald Foundation to remove the financial barriers he hit himself, and co-founded AmpuHealth to build broader systemic solutions for prosthetic access and care. As Founder and Executive Director, Ryan leads with the authority of someone who has lived the problem and the conviction of someone who intends to solve it.

Dr. David Hausmann is an entrepreneur, healthcare practitioner, and amputee advocate who knows firsthand what it means to need a prosthetic device and face the systems that determine whether you get one. Following a catastrophic medical event caused by the world's deadliest infection, Dr. Hausmann lost his leg and navigated recovery, rehabilitation, and the complex barriers that stand between amputees and the care they need.
That experience gave him a deep understanding of both the life-changing power of modern prosthetics and the financial and bureaucratic obstacles that keep them out of reach. He serves as Treasurer of the Board, guiding the foundation's financial stewardship and helping ensure its resources reach the amputees who need them most. His work is driven by a simple belief: mobility should never be limited by financial barriers.
